| Dorothy P. Lathrop, one of the most influential
children’s illustrators of the ‘30s and ‘40s,
once wrote: “I wonder if we don’t too often
forget how new this natural world is to children, how
fresh and unjaded their interest in it?” The artist
herself obviously didn’t forget, which allowed her
to create her own fresh, unjaded, and ultimately stunning
take on the voices inside a sea shell...and on the direction
available to us when we pause long enough to seek it.
